Here Are All The Places Where Local Elections Are Taking Place On 5 May

Voters up and down the UK are today deciding who will run their councils, but some areas have more seats up for grabs than others in these local elections.

Across England, Scotland and Wales, 6,819 council seats are scheduled for election. On the same day in Northern Ireland, residents in all its 90 constituencies will elect members to the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The majority of local seats up for election in the UK are in England, at a total of 4,359. Council elections are being held in 144 of England’s 333 councils.

Councillors for every seat in Scotland (1,226) and Wales (1,234) are being voted for, making these elections a key test of the political mood in the devolved nations.

All of London’s councils will also be contested, with Tory flagship boroughs such as Wandsworth and Westminster under threat from Labour, according to YouGov.

Elsewhere in England, five district councils (St Albans, Huntingdonshire, Newcastle-under-Lyme, South Cambridgeshire, Gosport) and four metropolitan boroughs (Birmingham, Bury, Rochdale and St Helens) have votes on all their seats.

North Yorkshire and Somerset County Councils, Reading unitary authority, and the new unitary authorities of Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness are also 100% for the taking.

Not all council elections take place in the same year, so a number of other local authorities in England will see only half or a third of their seats voted on.
