In a post-Covid economy, it’s vital all viable options for decarbonising rural homes are available to consumers

Andy Parker, Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs | Calor Gas

1 min read

This week’s report from the CCC includes a recommendation that all heating in off-gas grid homes should be low carbon by 2035 - a big challenge for rural householders as the pace of change is much quicker than for urban households.

In a post-Covid economy, with both taxpayer and household finances hard hit, it’s vital all viable options for decarbonising rural homes are available to consumers.

A mixed technology approach, which includes biofuels/green gas, heat pumps, hybrid heat pumps and biomass provides choice and flexibility for consumers in how they decarbonise their heating. Rural consumers need affordable options, particularly those living in the roughly one third of rural homes which are ‘hard to treat’, where a heat pumps alone is unlikely to keep you warm in a cold snap.

This is why Calor has introduced BioLPG to the market - a direct, low carbon replacement for LPG boilers, which reduces carbon emissions immediately by around 80%, and doesn’t require the substantial upfront costs of other low carbon heating solutions.”
