Labour press release
Gavin Shuker MP, Labour’s Shadow Water Minister, commenting on the extension of drought conditions to the South West and Midlands today, said:
"Half of Britain is now in drought and the Environment Agency believes this water shortage could continue into 2013. Consumers are helping to keep water demand down by observing the hosepipe ban, but Government is failing to commit to the changes we need.
"We need a secure water supply not just to get through this drought, but to meet our growing water demand into the future. The Government needs to end the delays over its long awaited water reforms and ensure that legislation is included in the Queen’s Speech next month."
