Labour Party press release
Gavin Shuker MP, Labour’s Shadow Water Minister, responding to the latest flood warnings from the Environment Agency, said:
"The floods raise serious questions about this out-of-touch Government's decision to cut spending on flood defences by £400 million. These cuts and ministers' failure to negotiate with the insurance industry mean some 200,000 high-risk homes may be uninsurable from July next year. The Tory-led Government are playing Russian roulette with people’s homes and businesses by failing to ensure that all homes can be insured against flooding. Clearly we aren't 'all in this together'."
