Mary Creagh: Out of touch Government cut spending on flood defences by £400 million and has delayed its Water Bill
Mary Creagh MP, Labour's Shadow Energy Secretary, on recent flooding and Caroline Spelman's comments on water supplies, said:
"People who experienced the devastation of the 2007 floods will be fearing the worst as more rain is forecast. This out of touch Government cut spending on flood defences by £400 million, has delayed its Water Bill and has no plans to reform the regime which allows companies to take water from rivers until 2015. The Government needs to get a grip, protect homes and businesses at risk of flooding and make sure our country’s water supply is not put at risk."
