Lord Justice Leveson is proving unusually talented at exposing the embarrassing text habits of our senior politicians (see David Cameron’s LOL confusion).
This time it’s Jeremy Hunt’s messages that are raising eyebrows.
Dot suspected the Culture Secretary was close to News International lobbyist Fred Michel, but new newly released texts suggest feelings ran rather deeper. One exchange runs:
Michel: Great announcement today. Well done
Hunt: Merci papa
Michel: Full of energy and purpose on Andrew Marr! Liked your answer on Rupert and the BBC! Have a great visit to India. Fred
Hunt: Merci mon ami
On another occasion, Mr Michel comments on Mr Hunt’s busy schedule of interviews, exclaiming “You have stamina daddy!” Mr Hunt coyly responds: “We all find it somewhere!”
Of course, there is an innocent explanation for all this. Mr Hunt and Mr Michel both had children born on the same day and in the same hospital.
Still, Dot wonders whether the Culture Secretary’s refrain on the BSkyB deal – Je ne regrette rien – is wearing a little thin...
