Treasury Committee press release
The Chairman of the Treasury Select Committee, Andrew Tyrie MP, today wrote to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, regarding the retrospective tax action taken against Barclays in February 2012 (see attached).
This correspondence follows the receipt of a letter from the Chief Executive of Barclays PLC, Bob Diamond (click on link below to download).
The Chairman of the Treasury Select Committee, Andrew Tyrie MP, commented:
"I have forwarded Mr Diamond's letter to the Chancellor. It is important that we find out what happened here.
"Barclays have expressed concerns about the handling of this issue and a response from the Treasury, in consultation with HMRC, is appropriate."
