CentreForum has come out in support of the Sun newspaper's campaign to limit welfare benefits for wealthy over 60s.
The liberal think tank has been banging this drum for a while. In a report published last September, CentreForum called for an end to higher rate tax relief on pension contributions as part of a drive to make taxes fairer. Two months later it urged the government to go a step further and limit tax relief on pension lump sum payments.
More recently, CentreForum has backed calls to introduce means testing for winter fuel allowance, free bus travel and free tv licences. It also wants higher rate taxpayers living in council houses to pay full market rent.
CentreForum's chief economist Tim Leunig said:
"No one on a six figure salary should be getting more cash from the government. We have to stop the rich from living in subsidised council housing, getting DOUBLE tax relief on pensions and still getting a free telly licence in retirement."
