Labour press release
Gavin Shuker MP, Labour's Shadow Water Minister, responding to the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) report on UK water security, said:
"Both Labour and the Institution of Civil Engineers have been calling for urgent action to secure our water supply, but it appears this out-of-touch Tory-led Government isn't listening.
"We all know what must be done to secure our water supply and keep bills low: greater efficiency, competition for business customers, better infrastructure and changes to prevent the harmful abstraction of our rivers. But more than anything we need a Government which is not afraid of taking on vested interests and making reform happen.
"This Tory-led Government is dragging its feet, delaying crucial legislation to reform the water industry. Today's publication of the ICE report should act as a wake up call for David Cameron. He must end the delays and take action now."
