Labour Party press release
Clive Efford MP, Labour's Shadow Sports Minister, commenting on the record sale of domestic TV rights for the Premier League (up by 70 per cent to just over £3 billion), said:
"This shows English football is in high demand from the British public and the Premier League must be congratulated on this success. British football faces many challenges in the future and I hope this money will help our national game at every level.
"The Premier League owes its success to the fans – to the passion that the British people feel for the game. More money going into football must also mean that more money is invested in sport in local communities."
