Defence Secretary Philip Hammond had to cancel his appearance at lobby lunch today to attend the funeral of the Saudi Crown Prince, but fortunately the Home Secretary was the replacement. Theresa May had some decent jokes about her two years in the job and revealed that power has changed her viewing habits. "I used to enjoy watching Spooks," she said. "But literally the first episode of the new series after the May 2010 general election, the Director General of MI5 killed the Home Secretary. He poisoned his drink. So last time I went to MI5 I made sure than when I was offered tea I had coffee. Nothing is certain in this world. Mrs May also made hacks laugh when she recalled someone had suggested the lobby might like "a self-defecating speech".
