Labour press release
Gavin Shuker MP, Labour’s Shadow Water Minister, responding to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee Report on the Government’s Water White Paper, said:
"This cross-party report is a damning verdict on the Government’s delayed Water Bill, with a Tory dominated committee slamming Defra inaction. "We all know what must be done to secure our water supply and keep bills
low: greater efficiency, competition for business customers, better infrastructure and changes to prevent the harmful abstraction of our rivers. But more than anything we need a Government which is not afraid of
taking on vested interests and making reform happen.
"This Tory-led Government is dragging its feet, delaying crucial legislation to reform the water industry. Today's publication of the Parliament Select Committee report on the Government’s Water White Paper report should act as a wake-up call for the Government."
