Laura Sandys press release
Laura Sandys MP, Member of the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee, said: “Today’s renewable subsidies announcement sends a clear message to industry and investors – the Government is committed to renewables being a vital component of the UK’s energy mix.
“The 10% reduction in support for onshore wind is based on hard evidence. We have seen reductions in costs within the wind industry itself and these have rightly been reflected in the new banding. However, we must start to be clearer with consumers. With the cost of fossil fuels becoming increasingly volatile, investing in renewables will benefit all of our household bills in the long term.
“Confirmation of subsidy levels will provide much needed industry confidence and will help unlock investment and create jobs within the wind, wave and tidal sector. Many companies have been on stand-by, poised to commit to regions but nervous due to lack of long-term certainty. I am hopeful this will encourage companies to invest in turbine production in Sheerness.”
