Stephen Twigg MP, Labour's Shadow Education Secretary, responding to reports on London schools, said:
"London's schools are now the gold standard in England after years of investment and reform with Labour. Having been well below average, state schools in the capital now outperform the rest of the country.
"The Government must learn from this success story to improve schools across England and not just engage in piecemeal reform. The key ingredients were not to accept failure anywhere, and raising the quality
of headteachers and teachers.
"London schools reflect the world class ambition of our capital city; the task now is to ensure all schools in all regions can raise their game."
