Lib Dems told to ‘vacate’ Lords benches

Baroness Deech has a crafty take on the fall out from the DPM’s announcement that House of Lords reform is to be dropped. On the excellent Lords of the Blog site, she lays into “thoroughly undemocratic LibDem plan of senators on a party list who would be elected for one term of 15 years” and accuses them of “deception”. She asks if LibDem peers will now vacate their seats in the Lords. “The logic of their presence was that they were there only in order to vote for the abolition of the House and its replacement.  If that is not going to happen, why would they want to stay in a House they regard as unworthy?” Dot imagines the 90 Lib Dem peers will argue they should stay to fight another day.
