Dafydd Wigley: Gwynfor Evans' ideal of full nation status for Wales within grasp

Plaid Cymru Press Release:

In the Gwynfor Evans memorial lecture at Plaid Cymru's Conference at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon today (Friday 14th September at 4.30pm in the Gallery), his successor as Plaid leader, Dafydd Wigley, will assert that Wales now has the necessary political freedom to fulfil Gwynfor's hopes for Wales.

In the key section of the 7,000 word lecture, Lord Wigley will say:

"If Wales wants full national status to which Gwynfor Evans aspired, all we now have to do, as a nation, is to ask for it.

“As with Scotland, we in Wales now have the democratic freedom to determine our own future.

“After Scotland gains independence, it will be up to the people of Wales whether they want to be perpetually governed by the Tories at Westminster or to take responsibility for their future into their own hands.

“That is the positive option which we can choose. It is for this that Gwynfor worked, and it is this which is now within our grasp."
