Labou: More young people not in education, employment or training than when Government came to office in 2010

Karen Buck MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Young People, commenting on today’s NEET figures, said:

"The number of young people who are not in education, employment or training is higher than it was in 2010 when this Government came to office.

"There are an extra 32,000 18-24 year olds who are out of work, education or training now compared to the same quarter of 2010.

"Under David Cameron’s watch, we have seen face to face careers advice for young people and the EMA axed while he prioritises a tax cut for millionaires. With so many young people left on the shelf, he can’t be the One Nation Prime Minister this country needs.

"Instead of this failed approach, we need an education and training system that works for all pupils with high quality work experience and careers advice, and more quality vocational courses through a Technical Baccalaureate."
