Labour press release
Liam Byrne MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, commenting on the Daily Mirror report today on how hard-working families are paying the price of the Government’s economic failure and a rising unemployment bill, said:
“It is now crystal clear that George Osborne’s Strivers Tax is simply to pay the bill for his failure to get Britain back to work.
“The Work Programme is worse than doing nothing, the economy is not growing and the OBR has been forced to revise up unemployment by a third of a million. That failure is costing a fortune and the Chancellor wants Britain’s working families to pick up the tab, yet hand out an average £100,000 tax cut to millionaires.”
