Labour: Justice for victims more important than pandering to Conservative Party Euroscepticism - Creasy
Stella Creasy MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Office Minister, said:
"The plan by Theresa May and David Cameron to opt out of the EU arrest warrant makes no sense if you are serious about keeping Britain safe. Indulging back bench Euroscepticism ahead of the interests of the British people like this will make it easier for serious criminals to flee justice, and badly undermine the fight against international crime.
"Serious criminals should not be able to simply cross the channel to escape British justice. Nor do we want suspected criminals from the rest of Europe hiding here while it takes us ages to send them back.
"It seems as though Tory backbenchers hate the European arrest warrant simply because it has Europe in the title. Justice for victims of crime should be more important than pandering to Conservative Party Euroscepticism and sleepwalking towards exit from the EU.
"David Cameron and Theresa May need to rethink and change this dangerous plan before they undermine the fight against cross border crime. We should be improving the way EU arrest warrant works from within, not just shaking an angry fist from the outside."
