Well, what do you expect from charmers like Hain and Balls? I seem to recall a story that when Kenneth Clarke sensed the Tories were going to lose the 1997 Election, he encouraged Eddie George, the Governor of the Bank of England, to have talks with Gordon Brown - how typical of Brown, Balls and co that you get the feeling they'd rather eat their own heads than show similar magnanimity and regard for the national interest.
