Stories involving Margaret Beckett

The Parliamentary Labour Party is to be balloted on whether to give the new Labour leader far greater power under radical reforms drawn up by the former foreign secretary Margaret Beckett.

Margaret Beckett has said parties "have to do more" to support women in politics after Caroline Spelman and Theresa May were the only women to be given senior Cabinet roles.

Former foreign secretary Margaret Beckett has warned that the lack of female cabinet members could alienate voters.

The Tories and Labour have joined forces to oppose a change to the voting system. The 'No to AV' campaign will include 'patrons' from both parties: Margaret Beckett, David Blunkett, Lord Falconer, Lord Reid and Lord Prescott will join William Hague, Kenneth Clarke, and Baroness Warsi.
