The National Audit Office is to investigate the sale of state-owned bank Northern Rock to Virgin Money. Amyas Morse, head of the NAO, confirmed the investigation would go ahead in a letter to Shadow Financial Secretary Chris Leslie.

There are "many flaws" emerging over the Government's deal to sell Northern Rock to Virgin Money, Chris Leslie has warned. Writing exclusively for PoliticsHome, the Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury said that the timing of the sale "raises some serious questions and concerns". He writes: "It is right that Northern Rock should be leaving public ownership, just as it was right to take it into public ownership in 2008 in order to avoid a catastrophe. However, the decision to sell at this time and in this manner raises some serious concerns and questions."
