Smith promoted in reshuffle

Ed Miliband has undertaken a minor reshuffle of his frontbench team, with Owen Smith promoted to Welsh Secretary to replace the departing Peter Hain.  Also of note is the appointment of Jon Cruddas to head up Labour's policy review. Mr Cruddas replaces Liam Byrne, who keeps his role as Work and Pensions Secretary despite rumours he may be moved from the post.


Ed promotes Smith in reshuffle

Ed Miliband today announced a reshuffle of his Shadow Cabinet, with Owen Smith promoted to Shadow Welsh Secretary to replace the departing Peter Hain.

Liam Byrne remained as Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, despite speculation that he may be moved away from the post.

However, Mr Byrne was replaced by Jon Cruddas as coordinator of Labour's policy review.
