The Electoral Commission has said it will not consider proposals for a Scottish referendum question drawn up by the anti-independence parties.
Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats had asked a panel of experts to formulate a question to submit to the commission for testing.
But in a statement released today Electoral Commissioner John McCormick said "it's for the relevant government to propose a question".
The SNP's Angus Robertson branded the decision an "utter humiliation for the Tories and the rest of the anti-independence parties."
