Countryside charity rejects calls to repeal hunting ban

The Countryside Alliance has played down the calls for a repeal of the hunting ban as record numbers turned out for Boxing Day meets. The organisation said it was "sensible" and "grown up" for the Government to be focusing on the economy rather than the hunting legislation, after environment ministers Jim Paice and Richard Benyon said the ban was "unenforceable and unworkable".

David Cameron has approved the appointment of a raft of new parliamentary private secretaries for government ministers.

The government has set out proposals which would license farmers to cull badgers, to help combat tuberculosis in cattle.

Food minister Jim Paice has called for a boost in British cheese exports. The UK is currently a net importer of cheese - Paice said the government needed to help the industry invest in processing in order to become a net exporter.
