David Cameron has defended UK gun laws and warned against "any kneejerk reaction" after a gunman killed 12 people and wounded 11 others in a shooting spree in Cumbria. Alan Johnson, the shadow home secretary, has agreed that there shouldn't be a rush to changes. Last night universities minister David Willetts said the government would not "rush off and do something because of an immediate outburst of revulsion at this horrible incident."
