MPs back Big Ben name change

MPs are said to be behind plans to rename Big Ben 'Elizabeth Tower' in honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood will today table a Commons motion for the proposal, which has already received cross-party support from senior members, including Sir Malcolm Rifkind and Jack Straw.

Mr Ellwood said: "I cannot think of a greater tribute for Parliament to bestow than to rename such an iconic landmark as the Clock Tower."
