Pressure over hacking claims
The Met have asked News of the World for any new material relating to alleged phone-hacking following the suspension of News editor Ian Edmondson. Labour has made renewed calls for an indepenednt inquiry into the police investigation of phone hacking at the News of the World. Shadow Chancellor Alan Johnsons also sought to tie the issue to Downing Street communications chief Andy Coulson, saying: "There is a very long fuse on this and I believe the very long fuse does lead to Andy Coulson." Shadow Home Secretary Ed Balls yesterday said it was up to Met commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson to decide on any inquiry.
