Govt launches early education consultation
140,000 disadvantaged two-year-olds will be entitled to free early education as part of new Government proposal. Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Children's Minister Sarah Teather have set out plans to offer 15 hours a week of free education to two-year-olds as part of the Government's commitment in 2010 to widen access to free early years education by 2013.
Sarah Teather said the Government's priority was "to increase social mobility by helping children from the poorest backgrounds in their earliest years".
