£500m police budget gap
Police forces across the country face a £500m budget gap, equivalent to thousands of officers being lost.

Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said the figures - obtained from police forces and HM Inspectorate of Constabulary - proved the Government's cuts went "too far, too fast". She called on the Coalition to "urgently change course and stop undermining the fight against crime".

Speaking this morning on the Andrew Marr Show, Ms Cooper also said the Government's policing reforms were in "chaos and confusion".
