Dementia care 'falling short'
Hospitals in England and Wales are "falling short" in the quality of care they provide to patients with dementia, a review has warned. The Royal College of Psychiatrists'
audit of 210 hospitals highlights particular issues of concern, such as poor communication with patients and their families, and basic planning arrangements for vulnerable patients.
Health Minister Paul Burstow this morning said the Government was "very aware" that not enough was being done for dementia patients and their families but that the Coalition was seeking to rectify the poor conditions.
The Royal College of Nursing has argued that dementia care is "not fit for purpose", and called for relatives of sufferers to be more involved in the decision-making process.
