Hodgson: Tackling child poverty the right thing
Tackling child poverty is the "right thing for the long-term economic prosperity of our country", Sharon Hodgson has said. Writing exclusively for PoliticsHome, the Labour MP said that severe poverty was a "prison sentence" and accused the Government of going back on their promises. She said: "Increasing childcare costs, coupled with stagnating or decreasing wages, a reduction in Government support for childcare for working parents through tax credits, and schools jettisoning breakfast and after-hours clubs as cuts bite, means thousands of families are facing a situation whereby getting or staying in work is financially impossible."
