Concern over nursery staff skills
A report into nursery staff skills has raised questions about literacy and numeracy skills amongst carers.
The
Nutbrown Review pointed out it was a "potential weakness" that staff did not need qualifications in Maths or English to complete their training, with concerns also expressed about whether students are equipped to work with children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Children's Minister Sarah Teather said the report recognised the "passion and professionalism of those working with our youngest children" and that it was vital there was a "workforce with the right knowledge and skills".
