Syrian situation 'highly precarious'
The situation in Syria remains "highly precarious", the United Nations Secretary General has warned. Ban Ki-moon told the UN yesterday that he had seen "troubling evidence" of ongoing violence in the country, despite the UN having reached a preliminary deal with President Assad's regime on the deployment of observers to monitor an agreed ceasefire. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called for an international arms embargo and further sanctions if the regime continued to ignore the ceasefire.
