Lansley backs regional pay
Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has sparked a fresh row with unions by backing Government plans for regional pay rates, which will mean NHS staff in poorer areas will be paid less.
Department of Health documents have revealed that the only exemptions will be for managers employed by the new bodies created by the Health and Social Care Act.
Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham said he believes the proposal is a plan to bring the free market to the NHS.
"I think this is all linked to Mr Cameron’s plans to bring the free market to the National Health Service and you know that’s all part of the plan and that’s why we will continue to oppose it."
