Quango savings criticised
MPs have questioned the Government's claim that scrapping quangos will save £2.6bn.
The Public Accounts Committee said that while there had been "good initial progress" in the promised "bonfire of the quangos", many of the savings were simply cuts in services rather than in bureaucracy as planned.
Margaret Hodge, chair of the committee, said the Government's projected figures for how much the bonfire of the quangos would save were based on "assumptions" and that it was widely agreed the estimate was "too low".
