Cameron: Heathrow delays 'unacceptable'
David Cameron has told Theresa May that the recent immigration delays at Heathrow are "unacceptable".
At the margins of today's Cabinet, the Prime Minister' told the Home Secretary and Transport Secretary the Government had to "get a grip" on the crisis - as British Airways chief Willie Walsh accused ministers of misleading the public about the problems in Britain's immigration service.
Leaked figures obtained by the Labour party reveal that the Border Agency has cut around 10% of its officers since 2010, with a further 1,550 could go by 2014/15. Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper attacked the Government's complacency over the issue.
Mr Walsh raised the possibility of airlines paying extra towards border staff to help speed up the passport control process, and the Immigration Minister Damian Green agreed it was important all services work together to improve the immigration service at Britain's airports.
He also admitted the queues were too long, and promised more staff would be drafted in to assist the struggling UK Border Agency.
