Clegg upbeat ahead of elections
Nick Clegg has talked up the Liberal Democrats’ election chances on Thursday, and said there is a “different mood” towards his party compared to last year.
Despite gloomy predictions about the Lib Dems’ prospects for the local elections, the Deputy Prime Minister told 5Live Breakfast: “I actually find that there is a different mood compared to last year... I actually think we’re getting a hearing and people are listening to us this year.”
Mr Clegg also defended the Government against the charge that it was blaming the UK’s woes on external factors such as the eurozone crisis, arguing:
“Of course we need to be responsible and answerable for our own actions, but we also have to be candid and clear about the enormity of the clean-up task.”
