New national service for teenagers
Ministers have unrevealed a £156m investment into a National Citizen's Service for 120,000 teenagers. The programme is part of the 'Big Society' and the Government hopes to expand it to all 16 year-olds as a 'rite of passage' after their GCSEs. Currently the cost works out at £1,300 on each 16-year-old involved but the Minister for Civil Society Nick Hurd said it offers value for money.
