Ofsted announces teacher pay freeze plan
Teachers could have their pay frozen after school inspections under new Ofsted measures aimed at linking salary progression with "the quality of teaching", the chief inspector of schools has announced. Sir Michael Wilshaw also revealed Ofsted will back down from plans to give schools no notice ahead of inspections, saying headteachers will instead be notified the afternoon before. But controversial proposals to replace the grading of "satisfactory" with "requires improvement" have been given the go ahead, Sir Michael confirmed.
