'Young home owners to halve by 2020'
An extra 1.5m 18-30 year-olds will be forced into private renting by 2020, while the number of home owners under 30 will almost halve, a new study has predicted.
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has called for tax breaks for landlords offering affordable rents to alleviate the problem.
Meanwhile Housing Minister Grant Shapps will today outline the ‘pay-to-stay’ scheme that could see high-earning council tenants pay higher rents.
Mr Shapps also told the Today programme the Government is "confidently on track" to build 170,000 affordable homes in this Parliament.
