Immigration stats could exclude students
David Cameron is considering excluding foreign students from immigration figures according to the Daily Mail – a move that has previously been described by Immigration Minister Damian Green as “absurd”.
It comes as new controls on student visas may block up to 5,000 applications from entering the UK. Home Office figures suggest that immigration officials would consider this number of people to be "bogus students" and deny them entry to the country.
This morning shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper branded reports of long waits at immigration desks at Heathrow airport a "disgrace".
