PM: M4 must reopen ASAP
The Government is increasing the pressure on the Highways Agency to ensure the M4 is reopened in time for visitors to the Olympics.

Downing Street today said the Prime Minister had taken a “very close interest” in the matter and wants to see it reopened “as soon as possible”, while Transport Secretary Justine Greening personally visited the road to check on the progress.

The Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman said this afternoon: “The Prime Minister wants the M4 to be reopened as quickly as possible. The Prime Minister has taken a very close interest in this. He is getting regular updates. He's focused on this issue.”

The comments from Number 10 come after the Highways Agency chief executive warned there were “no guarantees” that it would be ready by Monday, when many visitors will arrive in London.
