DWP overpaid £16m worth of benefits
The Department of Work and Pensions has overpaid £16m worth of disability benefits since 2007, it was revealed today.
1,600 people claiming Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance were overpaid by between £20.55 to £131.50 a week, the department said.
The Minister for Disabled People Maria Miller said recovery of the payments will be considered "on an individual basis".
In a written statement, the Minister said: "It is extremely disappointing that this situation was not resolved in 2007 and that thorough monitoring was not put in place then in light of the fact that mistakes had been identified now."
