Trades Union Congress general secretary elect Frances O’Grady has called on ministers to support working parents with childcare costs.
Ms O’Grady warns childcare could become a problem as costs continue, to rise and has urged the Government to incorporate childcare into the welfare state. She rejected David Cameron’s idea of giving tax breaks to families who employ a nanny.
The calls come after an analysis by the Daycare Trust estimated the average family now spends one quarter of its income on part time childcare.
