Cost pressures and "accountants" must not dictate Nato policy in Afghanistan, the head of the alliance has said. Anders Fogh Rasmussen told The Times: "Decisions that have implications for security, also the security of our soldiers, can’t be made soley on the basis of accountants. We have to make sure that what we do in Afghanistan will contribute to long-term stability in the country." Meanwhile, David Cameron has warned the Taliban that they will not be able to "wait it out" until the withdrawal of troops in 2014, insisting there was a "very clear and strong plan to transfer lead security responsibility... to very capable Afghan forces."
