Fighter jets bomb Syrian city
Fighter jets have bombed the eastern Syrian city of Aleppo, according to reports this afternoon.
Earlier, Syrian troops clashed with rebels in Damascus and Aleppo in an attempt to retake areas out of government control.
There have also been breakouts from prisons in Homs and Aleppo, where nine inmates died, and activists say security forces are threatening to storm the Homs jail.
The renewed clashes come amid concerns that the Assad regime is preparing to use chemical weapons against insurgents after a regime spokesman said the weapons could be deployed "against external aggression".
Barack Obama has warned the Assad regime will be "held accountable” if they do so.
