Clegg set to drop Lords reform
The Liberal Democrats are set to abandon their proposals for House of Lords reform, with Nick Clegg expected to make an official announcement next week.
Reports yesterday claimed David Cameron has been unable to overcome backbench opposition to the reforms and will be forced to drop the plans.
Senior Lib Dems warned last night such a move would leave the Coalition in "uncharted territory", and reports suggest Mr Clegg may respond by demanding the Government drops plans for constituency boundary changes.
Speaking anonymously to the Spectator Coffee House blog, a "senior Liberal Democrat MP" is said to have commented that the party should vote through the boundary changes, despite the scuppering of Lords reform plans.
