Cable welcomes energy investment

Vince Cable has welcomed new investment in the UK by oil and gas companies.

At a business summit today the energy firms will announce a series of investments including a new research centre and thousands of new jobs.

Six separate announcements are anticipated, including plans for new oil and gas fields in the North Sea.

The Business Secretary described the oil and gas industry’s effect on the UK economy as “pivotal as we rebalance our economy" and said it made an “immense contribution" to the UK's industrial capacity.
