Lib Dems to oppose secret courts
Liberal Democrats will criticise Government plans for secret court hearings at their party conference next month, The Independent reports. Senior Lib Dems are still uneasy over plans that were watered down earlier this year, when proposals to allow ministers to allow hearings in private when national security was at risk were dropped. Party members fear the remaining aspects would still undermine principles of open justice by giving security services too much control over the judicial process.
